The Re:GenTravel project – Regeneration, Tourism, and Quality of Life in the EUREGIO – focuses on the intersection of tourism development, health promotion, and sustainable regional planning. The aim is to systematically identify nature-based locations with particular recreational potential in the Bavarian-Austrian border region and to make them usable in an evidence-based manner.
In an innovative methodological approach, the project combines digital crowdsourcing tools with geoinformatics analysis, environmental measurements, and health indicators. Using an app, locals and visitors record regenerative locations – i.e., places where they feel particularly relaxed. This data is linked to environmental and mobility parameters and visualized in an EUREGIO-wide digital potential map.
Based on these findings, Re:GenTravel develops new, target group-specific tourism offers that aim to promote health. These include, for example, digital tools such as an AI-supported regeneration coach or thematically focused experience offers.
The project work follows a transdisciplinary approach and brings together partners from science, destination management, digitalization, and regional development. The common goal is to strengthen sustainable tourism strategies that take into account the environment, the population, and individual health resources.
